The National Engineering Research Center for coal water slurry gasification and coal chemical industry (hereinafter referred to as the center) is a national engineering research center approved by the former State Development Planning Commission, supported by Yankuang Lunan Chemical fertilizer plant, and composed of Northwest Research Institute of chemical industry, Southwest Research Institute of chemical industry, Research Institute of Nanjing Chemical Company, China Tianchen Engineering Co., Ltd., East China University of technology and Tsinghua University.

Since its establishment, the center has fully relied on the favorable conditions of Yankuang Lunan Chemical fertilizer plant, adhered to the combination of production, learning and research, and built a coal gasification and coal chemical industry experimental research and engineering development base. It has successively undertaken 2 national key scientific and technological research projects during the ninth five year plan and the Tenth Five Year Plan and 3 National 863 projects during the Tenth Five Year Plan and the Eleventh Five Year Plan; Won one first prize and one second prize of national science and technology progress award, one special prize of science and technology progress award of China Petroleum and chemical industry association and one of the top ten scientific and technological achievements of coal industry; 9 technical projects jointly developed with universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises; 6 independent development technology projects; 5 ministerial technical appraisals; 17 authorized patents have been obtained.

The center is a comprehensive research institution integrating scientific research, development, design, training and academic exchange functions. It has strong technical force, has a research and development team with complete professional division of labor and reasonable age structure, has accumulated rich experience in the fields of coal gasification and coal chemical process, equipment, system control technology, etc., has built 6 pilot plants, 6 laboratories and 4 simulation training systems, and has from laboratory to intermediate test, And then to the complete scientific and technological development system of engineering research and implementation, technology promotion and service.
